Dimensions

Measurements & Dimensions

All sizes listed for the Lykke aluminium pergola are based on the measurement from outside leg to outside leg. This provides a clear and consistent reference when planning your space and comparing pergola sizes.

Do I Need Planning Permission?

Height

The overall height of the Lykke pergola is 2.5 metres across all sizes. This height has been carefully designed to align with UK planning and permitted development guidelines, making it the premium and practical choice for residential gardens. Many lower-quality online pergolas are manufactured at reduced heights, which can limit usability and impact visual proportions.

Footprint & Clearance

Due to the pergola feet and protective shoe covers, the overall footprint of the structure extends slightly beyond the stated leg-to-leg measurement.

  • The total additional footprint is 8cm overall

  • This means 4cm per side

For example:

  • A pergola listed as 3m x 3m measures 3m x 3m from outside leg to outside leg

  • The overall footprint required is 3.08m x 3.08m

We recommend allowing for this additional clearance when preparing your installation area to ensure a smooth and accurate fit.

Size spec sheets available upon request outlining the exact measurements of each sized pergola allowing you to plan the installation of your new pergola.

If you are unsure which size is best for your space, our team is always happy to advise before ordering.

FAQs

What is composite decking?

Composite decking is an alternative to traditional timber decking, manufactured from a combination of wood fibres and polymer materials. It is designed to provide the appearance of timber while requiring less routine maintenance than traditional wooden deck boards.

What size are the PergoLIFE composite decking boards?

Our composite decking boards are supplied in2.4 metre lengths. Their shorter, manageable length makes them convenient to transport, handle and install in typical UK gardens.

Are the decking boards double sided?

Yes. Our decking has been designed withtwo different colour finishes on the same board. One face isNatural Oakand the reverse isStone Grey, allowing you to choose which colour is installed facing upwards.

Which colour should I choose — Natural Oak or Stone Grey?

You don't have to decide before ordering. Every board includes both finishes. Install the Natural Oak face upwards for a lighter, warmer timber appearance or flip the board and install the Stone Grey face upwards for a contemporary grey finish.

What does uncapped composite decking mean?

Uncapped composite decking does not have the additional polymer outer shell found on capped composite boards. It still provides the low-maintenance benefits associated with composite decking, but generally offers a more affordable route into composite decking.

Does composite decking look like real wood?

Our boards feature an embossed woodgrain surface designed to recreate the character and texture of natural timber. The Natural Oak finish provides a light contemporary timber appearance, while Stone Grey creates a more modern architectural look.

Does composite decking need painting, staining or sealing?

No. Unlike traditional timber decking, composite decking does not require routine painting, staining or sealing to maintain its colour and finish. Normal cleaning is still recommended to keep the decking looking its best.

Is composite decking slippery when wet?

As with any outdoor surface, composite decking can become more slippery when wet or if algae, dirt or organic material is allowed to accumulate. Regular cleaning and good drainage help maintain the surface.

Will composite decking fade?

Some colour change can occur as composite decking is exposed to sunlight and weather, particularly during its initial period outdoors. The extent depends on the composition and finish of the board.

How many 2.4m composite decking boards do I need?

The number of boards required depends on the dimensions of your decking area, board width, spacing between boards and the direction in which you plan to install them. We recommend allowing additional material for cuts and wastage.

Can I install composite decking myself?

Yes, composite decking can be suitable for experienced DIY installation. Accurate preparation of the subframe, correct joist spacing, board gaps and suitable fixings are important to achieving a good result.

Is composite decking suitable for UK weather?

Yes. Composite decking is widely used in UK gardens because it offers a low-maintenance alternative to timber and is designed for outdoor exposure. Correct installation and drainage remain particularly important in the UK's wet climate.

Is composite decking suitable underneath a pergola?

Yes — and this is one I'd make particularly prominent on PergoLIFE.Composite decking is an excellent way to create a finished outdoor living area beneath an aluminium pergola. The combination creates a defined space for outdoor dining, lounging or entertaining while keeping ongoing maintenance relatively low.

Can a PergoLIFE pergola be installed onto composite decking?

A pergola should not normally be fixed only to the composite decking boards themselves. The pergola needs to be securely anchored to a suitable structural base beneath the decking. If you're planning a new deck and pergola together, it's best to account for the pergola fixing points when designing the substructure.
