The Lykke Aluminium Pergola has been structurally analysed for wind loads on a large 4m × 4m configuration, providing additional reassurance for exposed UK gardens.
Up to 149 km/h (93 mph) Wind Resistance*
Structural analysis of the 4m × 4m Lykke pergola was carried out using a wind pressure of 1,058.4 Pa, representing wind speeds of up to approximately 149 km/h (93 mph).
The analysis recorded a maximum frame deformation of 6.89mm and a calculated structural safety factor of 1.14.
This makes Lykke an excellent choice for customers looking for a substantial aluminium pergola engineered with strength and structural performance in mind.
Wind analysis at a glance
- Wind speed: Up to 149 km/h / 93 mph*
- Analysed size: 4m × 4m
- Applied wind pressure: 1,058.4 Pa
- Maximum deformation: 6.89mm
- Calculated safety factor: 1.14
- Force 13: above Beaufort 12 scale
- Structural aluminium: 6063-T5
*Figures are based on structural/static analysis of a 4m × 4m pergola rather than a physical wind-tunnel test. Actual wind performance can vary according to pergola size and configuration, correct assembly and anchoring, foundations, surrounding buildings, terrain, location and exposure. The pergola must be correctly installed and securely anchored in accordance with installation requirements.
Engineered for Snow Loads
The Lykke Aluminium Pergola has also undergone structural analysis for heavy snow loading on a large 4m × 4m configuration.
Up to 90 kg/m² Snow Load*
The analysis considered 30cm of snow, including heavy wet snow and ice conditions, and used a design pressure of 900 Pa across the 4m × 4m roof.
This is approximately equivalent to 90 kg of evenly distributed load per square metre, or around 1.4 tonnes distributed across the complete 4m × 4m roof.
Under this loading, the structure recorded a maximum deformation of only 1.11mm and a calculated structural safety factor of 1.87.
Snow-load analysis at a glance
- Snow depth analysed: 30cm
- Snow load: Approximately 90 kg/m²*
- Analysed size: 4m × 4m
- Applied pressure: 900 Pa
- Approximate distributed roof load: 1.4 tonnes
- Maximum deformation: 1.11mm
- Calculated safety factor: 1.87
*The 90 kg/m² figure is the approximate mass-equivalent of the 900 Pa pressure used in the structural analysis. The analysis models an evenly distributed load across the roof and should not be interpreted as a permitted concentrated or point load. Actual snow weight varies considerably according to snow type, water content, compaction and ice formation. Snow accumulation should always be managed in accordance with the product's care and installation instructions.
Engineered for Heavy UK Rainfall
Calculated Rainfall Handling up to 75mm per Hour*
British weather demands more from a pergola than simply keeping the rain off. Lykke has an integrated drainage system designed to collect rainwater across the roof and quickly channel it away through all four aluminium posts.
Each double-layer roof louvre incorporates a 40 × 20mm drainage channel, with water able to discharge from both endsdirectly into the pergola's 45 × 30mm perimeter gutters.
From there, large 80 × 80mm openings at each corner allow water to flow directly into all four hollow aluminium posts, before draining through outlets concealed at the base.
What does 75mm of rainfall per hour mean?
On a 4m × 4m Lykke, rainfall at 75mm per hour would mean approximately 1,200 litres of water landing on the roof every hour — equivalent to 20 litres every minute.
Rather than relying on a single downpipe, Lykke distributes drainage around the structure, with the louvres draining from both ends and all four posts forming part of the concealed drainage system.
Integrated Drainage Specification
- Calculated rainfall handling: up to 75mm/hour*
- 4m × 4m roof at 75mm/hour: approximately 1,200 litres/hour
- Louvre drainage channels: 40 × 20mm
- Louvre drainage: both ends
- Perimeter gutters: 45 × 30mm
- Gutter-to-post openings: 80 × 80mm
- Concealed drainage: through all four hollow aluminium posts
- Base drainage outlets: 20mm per post
- Recommended installation fall: approximately 10mm
The 75mm/hour figure is a calculated drainage estimate based on the dimensions and configuration of the standard four-post Lykke drainage system and is not a physical rainfall-test certification. Actual drainage performance can vary according to pergola size, installation and levelling, rainfall characteristics, outlet condition, debris and blockages. For optimum drainage, the pergola should be installed with the recommended fall and drainage channels and outlets kept clear.
